House of the Dragon season 1 is the first season of the American fantasy drama television series of the same name, which premiered on HBO on August 21, 2022, and concluded on October 23, 2022. Lore & Background
The season follows Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen after her father King Viserys I Targaryen names her his heir, breaking a century-long tradition of male-only succession. This decision leads to tension within House Targaryen, as Hand of the King Otto Hightower conspires to usurp Rhaenyra by marrying his daughter Alicent to Viserys, who fathers Prince Aegon II Targaryen. The story takes place on the continent of Westeros.
